Should
Telemarketing Firms be Allowed to Retain the Majority of Funds Donated to
Charities?
Pros:
Telemarketing is freedom
of speech.
There is no law that
prohibits telemarketers from keeping a percentage of the donation.
The charities have agreed
to the terms regarding what percentage the telemarketing firm will receive.
The Supreme Court has
repeatedly ruled in favor of the telemarketing firms.
Cons:
Only a small proportion
of the donated money is actually given to the charity.
Donors are under the
impression that all of their money is going to the charity.
Telemarketers fail to
disclose they are keeping most of the money that is raised in the charity's
name.
